Google AdSense approval means you create an account, connect the site where ads will run, and pass Google's site review until the status changes to "Ready". Site review usually finishes within a few days, but it can take 2 to 4 weeks in some cases. The official documentation shows no revision date, so this guide is based on the Google AdSense Help Center pages as viewed on October 4, 2026. It covers the requirements, the steps from signup to review request, how to check your status, and what to check if you are not approved.
AdSense approval requirements: what you need before signing up
The official eligibility requirements page lists four conditions. Check them one by one against the table below right before you apply.
| Requirement | Official guidance | How to check before applying (interpretation) |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Only people aged 19 or older (Korean legal age of majority) can apply | The applicant's own age |
| Content | Content must be high quality, original and able to attract an audience | Whether enough of your own writing is published, and whether any content copied from elsewhere is mixed in |
| Site access | You must have access to the HTML source code of the site you apply with | Whether you can paste code into the <head> section of your site |
| Policy compliance | Before signing up, confirm that your site complies with the Google program policies | Compare your site content with the program policies in the Policy center |
The content requirement is explained in more detail in the site preparation guide. You need unique content. Your navigation menu must be clear so visitors can easily find the information they want. Scraped or copyrighted content is a policy violation. The official documentation gives no minimum number of posts or visitors. So instead of hitting a post count, it is safer to check whether each post helps readers. This judgment is the author's interpretation, not an official requirement.
AdSense signup steps: from creating an account to identity verification
You start by going to adsense.google.com/start, clicking "Get started" and signing in with a Google Account. Next, enter the URL of the site where ads will run (if you have no site yet, choose "I don't have a site yet"). Then choose your email preferences, select your country or region, and accept the terms of service. You finish with "Start using AdSense". Choose the country or region where you actually live and can receive a PIN (a verification code for address confirmation) by mail. You cannot change it later.

After you create the account, the account setup stage remains. In your payment details, enter a name that exactly matches the name registered with your bank, and a full address including the postal code, so you can receive payments. Depending on your location, a PIN for address verification may arrive by mail. From June 2026, you must complete identity verification to serve ads and receive payments. You do this with a government-issued photo ID within 45 days of the date Google first requests it. The guidance says it takes 5 to 10 minutes in most cases.
How to connect your site and request review
Once account setup is done, you move on to the steps for adding your site and confirming ownership. On the AdSense home page, save your URL with "Add site". Then click "Start" on the "Connect your site to AdSense" card and choose one verification method.
| Verification method | What to do |
|---|---|
| AdSense code snippet | A code snippet is a piece of script issued by AdSense. Paste it between the <head> tags of your site |
| ads.txt file | A text file where the site owner publicly names the companies authorized to sell its ads. Paste the code AdSense gave you into it and upload it to the top-level (root) directory of your site |
| Meta tag | Place the provided meta tag between the <head> tags |
After you add the code, tick the confirmation checkbox, click "Verify", and then click "Request review". At the end, an optional step may appear for choosing a consent management platform (CMP, a tool that collects visitors' consent for cookies and personal data). Choose an option if you need one and submit. If you use a blog service, first check whether editing the <head> is open to you. All three methods require you to upload code or a file directly to your site. If editing is blocked, you cannot complete the ownership verification step.
Where to check approval status and how long review takes
Log in to AdSense and open the "Sites" menu. The site list shows the approval status and the ads.txt status. There are four statuses, and each one calls for a different action.

| Status | Meaning | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Requires review | The site has not been verified yet | Finish the required tasks and request a review |
| Needs attention | Google found issues that must be fixed before ads can run | Fix the issues and request a review again |
| Getting ready | Google is reviewing the site. Usually a few days, sometimes 2 to 4 weeks | Wait |
| Ready | The site is ready to show ads | Start setting up ads |
After you request review, the "Sites" card shows "Getting ready". When it changes to "Ready" within a few days to 4 weeks, approval is complete.
What to check and how to request review again if you are not approved
If your site status shows that it is not ready to serve ads, go through the official checklist from the top.

- Ad code: Check that the AdSense code sits between the
<head>tags of the site you registered at signup. Search Console ownership verification can also replace it. - Site access: Re-enter the URL exactly, and temporarily remove any login requirement if pages are only visible after login. Also check that robots.txt (a file that lists what search bots may access) does not block the Google crawler, and that HTTPS is enabled with a valid SSL certificate.
- Content and user experience: Your site needs enough content that is valuable to users and must be easy to navigate. Add more unique, substantial posts.
- Policy violations: Check for violations in the Policy center and resolve them.
After you make fixes, open the "Sites" menu in AdSense, click the site, confirm the ad code is present and click "Request review". A re-review also usually takes a few days, and up to 2 to 4 weeks.
AdSense approval FAQ
Can minors sign up for AdSense?
People under 19 cannot apply directly. The eligibility requirements page says that if an adult guardian signs up with their own Google Account, payments go to that responsible adult after the account is approved.
Can I create an account and delay setup?
If you do not set up your account within 6 months, it is deactivated. You must finish setup tasks such as entering payment details and connecting a site within 6 months.
Can I apply with a hosted blog service such as Tistory or Naver Blog?
The official requirement is that you can access the HTML source code of the site you apply with. First check whether your blog service allows editing the <head> section. Tistory and Naver Blog are popular blog platforms in Korea. If the service does not allow it, you cannot connect with the code insertion method.
