Instagram Ads Cost: Daily Budget, Billing and VAT Guide

Instagram ad costs have no fixed price list. Ads run through an auction within the budget the advertiser sets. Meta recommends starting with a budget of at least 5 dollars and running for more than 6 days (checked October 3, 2026). With a daily budget, spending on a single day can exceed the budget by up to 75%, but total spend never goes beyond 7 times the daily budget. In Korea, 10% value-added tax (VAT) is added to ad spend.

How Instagram ad costs are set

Meta runs an auction every time an ad slot opens, and cost is incurred when the winning ad is shown. According to the ad auction guide, ad ranking is decided by total value, which combines the bid, estimated action rates and ad quality. The estimated action rate is how likely a person who sees the ad is to take an action such as a click or a purchase. Ad quality is the quality of the creative and of the response to it.

So with the same bid, an ad that gets better engagement has the edge in the auction. Raising only the bid increases cost, but an ad whose creative and targeting are off may not rank higher.

The Meta pricing guide lists ad quality, bidding strategy, performance goal, budget type and campaign objective as factors that affect campaign cost. The ones advertisers choose directly in the settings are budget type, bidding strategy and performance goal.

Instagram ad budget setup: daily budget and lifetime budget

You set the budget at the ad set level (the unit that bundles targeting and placements) or at the campaign level. There are two types: daily budget and lifetime budget. A daily budget is the average amount you want to spend per day, so spending varies from day to day. A lifetime budget is the cap for the whole scheduled period.

If you set a daily budget of 10,000 KRW, spend on one day can reach up to 17,500 KRW. Under the guidance that spend does not exceed 7 times the daily budget, the 7-day total stays within 70,000 KRW. These amounts are illustrative calculations that apply the official rules. A single day above budget is not an error, so compare against the weekly total.

If you also use Google Ads, note that its limits are different. The Google Ads help page says daily spend can reach up to 2 times the daily budget, and monthly spend can reach up to 30.4 times the daily budget.

What is the minimum Instagram ad budget

The starting guideline in the Meta pricing guide is a budget of at least 5 dollars and a run of more than 6 days. The same page also says to set a budget large enough to spend for at least 7 days. Because it is stated in dollars, the KRW amount changes with the exchange rate, and the actual minimum you can enter is shown in the budget field of Ads Manager.

AMPM, a Korean ad agency industry outlet, explains in its August 2025 article that at 50,000 KRW or more per day, the learning phase often stabilizes within a week, while at 30,000 KRW or less it takes 2 to 3 weeks or more. This is an industry rule of thumb, not an official Meta figure. If you start small, it is better to keep the same budget for at least a week, until you can read the results. If Ads Manager shows a Budget too low notice, consider raising the budget.

Audience size also affects cost efficiency. The Meta pricing guide explains that ad sets with an audience size of 2 million or more lead to better performance.

When Instagram ads are billed, and VAT

Instagram ad spend builds up as your ads run and is then charged. With a credit card or PayPal, you are charged at whichever comes first: when you reach the billing threshold or on the monthly billing date. So even a single ad can trigger several payment notifications in one month.

Payments are split between the threshold and the monthly billing date, and VAT is added separately.

For advertisers in Korea, 10% VAT is added under the South Korea VAT guide. If you run a 10,000 KRW daily budget for 30 days, ad spend is about 300,000 KRW and VAT adds about 30,000 KRW, so you are charged around 330,000 KRW. This is an illustrative calculation. For business tax treatment, check the tax line in the billing history in Ads Manager and confirm with a tax professional.

Common mistakes

Being alarmed when one day's spend goes over budget. A daily budget is an average, so a day can run up to 75% higher. Judge by comparing the weekly total with 7 times the daily budget.

Changing the budget within a day or two. If you change the budget or targeting after only a few days, it is hard to compare which condition produced the result. Keep the same conditions for at least 7 days, the period Meta recommends.

Raising only the bid. Total value also includes estimated action rate and ad quality, so a low-engagement creative may not rank higher even with a higher bid. Check the creative and targeting first.

Planning the monthly budget without VAT. The amount charged is 10% higher than the ad spend. Set the budget as the total you can afford divided by 1.1.

What to do today and how to check it

Divide the monthly total you can afford by 1.1 to get ad spend without VAT, then divide that by 30 days to set the daily budget. In Ads Manager, enter that value as the daily budget of the ad set and run it under the same conditions for at least 7 days. After 7 days, check whether the total spend in Ads Manager is within 7 times the daily budget. If so, the setup worked as intended. If the total goes over 7 times, recheck the budget type and period you set.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Instagram ad cost per click? It varies by industry, audience, season and competition, and the official sources for this article give no standard rate. Use your own account's cost, which is first-week spend divided by the number of results.

Are Instagram ads prepaid or postpaid? With card or PayPal payment, the amount that builds up as your ads run is charged when it reaches the billing threshold and on the monthly billing date.

Can I advertise with 5,000 KRW a day? Meta's official recommendation is 5 dollars or more, so depending on the exchange rate 5,000 KRW may fall short. Check the minimum you can enter in the budget field of Ads Manager.
