Naver Place registration is the process of applying through Smartplace to list your business on Naver Map and Naver Search (Naver is Korea's largest search engine). It is free for any Naver member, and you must submit a business registration certificate. After you apply, review takes from 2 hours up to 5 business days, and the result arrives at the email address saved in your Naver member profile. The steps and conditions follow the new business registration guide from the Smartplace business owner help center as of October 3, 2026.
What Naver Place registration involves
Business information on Naver Place is registered and managed directly by the business owner in Smartplace. The official help pages call the service Smartplace. Owners who want their business shown and managed in search results apply for registration there. So "Naver Place registration" and "Smartplace registration" refer to the same task.
You apply on the new business registration page in Smartplace. A business registration certificate is required. Each business type also has extra documents, so read the documents by business type guide and the registration standards guide together.
What you need to prepare for Naver Place registration
To avoid getting stuck on the application screen, gather the five items below first. If you have the certificate file, uploading it fills in the business details automatically. If you do not have the file, you can look up the business number instead.

| Item | Condition |
|---|---|
| Naver account | Members under 14 who need a legal guardian's consent cannot register a business |
| Business registration certificate | Upload an image file and the text is recognized and filled in automatically. Without a file, enter the business number under [Verify without certificate] to authenticate. A Naver certificate is required for this option |
| Business phone number | For a mobile number, enter the verification code you receive. A landline needs no verification, but the area code must match the business address |
| Business address | Enter the address by administrative district and a pin appears on the map |
| Documents by business type | Depending on the business type you choose, you are shown extra documents or official sites to check |
How to register on Naver Place in 6 steps
The application starts with a business type search, goes through review, and ends with additional information. You can fill in the additional information while review is in progress.

| Step | What to do | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Search business type | Find your business type using the item listed on the certificate or a keyword that represents your business | Extra document guidance appears depending on the type |
| 2. Verify business info | Upload the file with [Verify with certificate], or look up the business number with [Verify without certificate] | Check that the auto-filled business info matches your document |
| 3. Duplicate check | The system automatically checks whether the same business is already registered | A duplicate blocks a new application, so follow the fixes below |
| 4. Enter basic info | Enter the business name, phone number, and address, then check the map pin | You must click either [This location is correct] or [No, the location is wrong] |
| 5. Review | Click [Next] and the application and review start right away | Takes 2 hours to 5 business days, and the result arrives by email |
| 6. Enter additional info | Enter business hours, days off, parking, prices, and website | These are optional and you can edit them any time later |
What to know when entering basic information
Choose the business name from the name on the certificate or business type documents, or the name on your signboard. The business name and main keywords may be edited during review to match Smartplace writing standards. Main keywords describe your business, such as menu names, services, or products, and you can add up to 5.
The business type you picked in the first step is filled in automatically. If you change the business type on this screen, all entered information is reset and you must apply again from the start. Restaurants, hair salons, and accommodations must enter at least one item of menu, treatment, or room information.
Review time and how to check the result
After you apply, the request is processed within 2 hours to 5 business days at most, and the result is sent to the email address saved in your Naver member profile. You cannot edit basic information during review, only after it ends. This email is the only place to check the result.
How to fix Naver Place registration problems
Most registration blocks come from duplicate businesses or document recognition problems. The table groups the official help guidance by situation.

| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| It says the business is already registered | If the listed business is yours, do not apply as new. Use [Change owner] to get management rights on your ID. If the details differ from what you are applying with, or the business is closed, continue with [Request deletion] or [New registration] |
| Another business has the same phone number | Enter a different phone number that is not a duplicate to submit a new registration |
| It says the business info is not valid | Check whether you need a correction of your business registration with the National Tax Service. If the business is valid and the message keeps appearing, remove special characters, text in parentheses, and line breaks on the business info edit screen |
| Certificate recognition failed | The photo is likely blurry or has glare. Retake it so the content is clearly visible and upload it again |
| It says the file is not a business registration certificate | Check that you uploaded a business registration certificate or a certificate of business registration status. If the business is valid but was misread, type the correct information into the fields on the analysis result screen and request review. Processing takes up to 5 business days |
| Verification still fails after the above | Upload a certificate of business registration status issued within the last 90 days, or use [Verify without certificate]. This status certificate is a separate document issued through the National Tax Service's Hometax |
| The business shows as suspended or closed | Owner change is not possible, so first check whether the business info registered with the National Tax Service needs correction |
| Registration is on hold | Where to find the reason for the hold is explained under the registration hold question in fixes for business registration problems by situation |
| The verification text message does not arrive | Check that the number 1588-3821 is not blocked |
The authenticity of the uploaded certificate is checked through the National Tax Service API. If the representative name reads "Hong Gil Dong and 1 other" or has parentheses and extra text, such as "Hong Gil Dong(Korean spelling)", you may see a message that it is not valid. The help page says removing this kind of notation on the business info edit screen solves it. For other cases, see fixes for business registration problems by situation, organized by question type.
Naver Place registration FAQ
Does verification fail if the representative name is in English or has a trailing space?
Remove the parentheses next to an English name or phrases like "and 1 other" and enter the name again. Some National Tax Service records have a space after the representative name. In that case, follow the official help page and try verification with the trailing space included, and it will pass.
Can someone under 14 register a business?
It is difficult. The official help page says Naver members under 14 who need a legal guardian's consent are restricted from registering a business in Smartplace.
Can I enter business hours or prices before review is finished?
Yes. Additional information such as business hours, days off, parking, and prices can be entered while review is in progress. Edit basic information such as the business name, phone number, and address after review ends.
