SNS Marketing: How to Choose Channels and Get Started

SNS marketing means using social accounts such as Instagram, YouTube, and KakaoTalk Channel to share news and talk with customers, so they visit, inquire, or buy. Pick the channel by your goal. To reach new people, use Instagram, which has recommendation surfaces. To talk with existing customers, use KakaoTalk Channel (KakaoTalk is Korea's dominant messenger). To attract neighborhood customers, use Daangn Business Profile (Daangn is Korea's local marketplace app, also known as Karrot). None of the three charges ad fees to open an account. This guide covers the starting requirements and how to check results, based on official guides as of October 9, 2026.

SNS marketing is account management, not paid advertising

SNS marketing is organic marketing done through posts and messages on your own account. The basics are sending news to followers or friends. On channels with a recommendation surface for public accounts, like Instagram, your content can also be shown to people who do not follow you. This is a different starting point from SNS advertising, where you pay to buy impressions.

Setup costs also differ by channel. Anyone can start a KakaoTalk Channel for free, and Daangn Business Profile is also free from registration to use. You can add ads later, once the account exists and you need them.

Choose SNS marketing channels by working backward from your goal

Work backward from your goal. Reaching new people suits channels with recommendation surfaces. Talking with customers you already have suits channels that can send messages. Neighborhood customers suit location-based channels. The table below organizes the official guides by this logic.

ChannelBest-fit goalStart requirements and features
InstagramReach new peopleInstagram explains that most content people see in Explore and Reels comes from accounts they do not follow. Recommendations only cover content from public accounts.
YouTubeBuild up video over timeAccording to Google Help, you need a channel to upload, comment, or create playlists. If several people run it, create it as a Brand Account.
KakaoTalk ChannelTalk with existing customersIt is free and appears in KakaoTalk search and the Friends tab. You can open a general channel first without a business registration number. To send Alimtalk (KakaoTalk's business notification messages), you must switch to a business channel.
Daangn Business ProfileAttract neighborhood customersIt is free, and business verification is not required when you create it. Features such as reservations, quotes, and product sales need you to complete verification.
ThreadsTalk in short postsYou log in with your Instagram account to start, and one post can have up to 500 characters. If you already have an Instagram account, you can connect right away.

Start with just one or two. Each channel favors a different format: text, short video, long video, or messages. It is easier to keep going if you focus on the ones that match your goal. For a personal brand with no business registration number or store, Instagram or YouTube needs the least preparation. For a neighborhood shop with a storefront, start with Daangn Business Profile and KakaoTalk Channel.

SNS marketing starts in five steps

The order is goal, channel, account, first post, and metrics check. If you set the goal first, you will know which numbers to watch later.

Diagram: Set a goal and pick a channel, then move on to the account, first post, and metrics check.
  1. Set a goal: Pick one of new visits, inquiries, or regular-customer communication, and narrow your channels to one or two.
  2. Create an account: On YouTube, go to Settings, choose Add or manage your channel(s), click Create a channel, and set a name and handle. If a team runs it, connect it as a Brand Account. For KakaoTalk Channel, create a new business in Kakao Business and enter the channel name, profile photo, and description.
  3. Turn on visibility: For KakaoTalk Channel, check Make channel public and Allow search on the dashboard so users can find it. On Instagram, a private account is not eligible for recommendations, so run a public one.
  4. Publish the first post: In your channel intro and first post, say what you sell and what you want customers to do next.
  5. Check metrics: Review the metrics in the next section every one to two weeks.

Check SNS marketing results by whether the goal action grew

Judge success by whether the goal action increased, not by whether the channel is open. Right after creating an account, first check that it is visible. On YouTube, check that your channel and the youtube.com/@핸들 address open. On KakaoTalk Channel, check that the channel name shows up in KakaoTalk search. On Daangn Business Profile, check that your shop appears when you search the shop name on the Daangn neighborhood map.

Next come engagement metrics. In remarks reported by Social Media Today, Instagram head Adam Mosseri named watch time, likes, and DM shares as the most important ranking signals. In Insights, look at average watch time per Reel, likes relative to reach, and shares relative to reach side by side. This shows what to keep in your next post. If your goal is site visits or inquiries, add UTM parameters to your profile link. According to Google Help, GA4 uses UTM values to separate traffic source, medium, and campaign, so you can view social traffic on its own.
