ChatGPT Ads CTR in Korea: 1.21% vs 0.73% in the US

ChatGPT ads CTR came in at 1.21% in Korea and 0.73% in the US, according to a Graphite and Similarweb report dated September 28, 2026. The figures come from Search Engine Journal's coverage. They are not results published by OpenAI, and they were not measured by running ads directly. Below you will find the country figures, what to watch out for when reading them, where the ads appear, and the order Korean advertisers should check things in.

ChatGPT ads CTR by country

Click-through rate (CTR) is the share of ad views (impressions) that were actually clicked. The report uses Similarweb's user panel, meaning data estimated from the behavior of a sample of users, and it looked at users on the Free and Go plans. According to the coverage, the analysis period runs 20 weeks, from May 4 to September 14, 2026, and the number of weeks counted differs by country, from 5 to 25 weeks. Go is a plan that costs 13,000 KRW per month in Korea.

Canada0.75%
UK0.74%
US0.73%
Australia0.67%
New Zealand0.60%

Korea is higher than all five English-speaking countries, and it is one of four markets above 1%, along with Brazil, Mexico and Japan. Still, this table is only a country-level comparison. It is not CTR by industry or by creative. The Graphite page that presents the report says CTR can vary by up to 30 times depending on the industry.

What to watch out for when reading ChatGPT ads CTR

The numbers are estimated from a user panel, so they can differ from the actual figures shown in an advertiser account. According to the same coverage, OpenAI also says performance benchmarks across advertisers, industries and campaign types are still lacking. Ads started in Korea in June, so fewer weeks may have been measured there than in other countries. Do not use 1.21% as the target for your own campaign.

It also makes no sense to line this up next to search ad or social ad CTR and declare a winner. ChatGPT ads sit below an answer inside a conversation, so the conditions for showing them are different. Clicks estimated by a panel and clicks counted in an advertiser dashboard may also be counted in different ways. If you need a baseline, use values measured the same way in your own account.

Where ChatGPT ads appear and who sees them

According to the OpenAI Help Center, ads appear below ChatGPT answers, and another help article says they are shown only to users on the Free and Go plans. Ads do not appear for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts, or for accounts of users under 18. In Korea, according to Asia Economy's report, ads are separated from the answer and shown as sponsored content.

What to check before running ChatGPT ads

Korea is on OpenAI's list of countries supported by Ads Manager. Account approval has its own conditions, though, so check the sign-up preparation first in our article on ChatGPT Ads self-service in Korea.

Advertisers receive only aggregate numbers such as views and clicks. The OpenAI Help Center says conversations, history and personal information are not shared with advertisers. So calculate CTR yourself by dividing clicks by impressions in the advertiser dashboard, and measure what happens after the click separately on the landing page.

CTR is clicks divided by impressions.

The Graphite report suggests advertisers budget ChatGPT ads as an experimental channel, not a core one. Following that advice, you can start with a small spend, then put CTR and post-landing conversions for the same period side by side and adjust the budget. Add fixed tracking parameters such as UTM to the landing URL, as the official guide describes. Then you can see visits from ChatGPT ads separately under session source/medium in GA4, and you can follow the inquiries and purchases from those visits through the conversion measurement in our article on ChatGPT Ads pixel and Conversions API setup.

Start with a small test, check CTR and conversions, then adjust the budget.

Judge success in three places. First, the CTR calculated from impressions and clicks in the advertiser dashboard. Second, whether UTM visits show up under GA4 session source/medium. Third, whether those visits produced conversions such as inquiries or purchases. If clicks keep piling up but GA4 shows no UTM visits at all, recheck the landing URL and the UTM values first. Treat 1.21% as a reference number only, and base your decisions on your own campaign's values for the same period.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT ads CTR higher than Google search ads?

There is no basis for a direct comparison. The ChatGPT ads figure in the report is a user panel estimate, while Google search ads figures are ad account metrics, so the measurement standards differ.

Can advertisers see user conversations in ChatGPT ads?

No, they cannot. The OpenAI Help Center says advertisers receive only aggregate information such as views and clicks, and do not receive conversations or personal information.
